Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Coaching

Coaching sessions cost $125/hour. Insurance (including Medicaid) does not cover coaching sessions.

Therapy is helpful to address your emotional well-being, daily functioning or long-term patterns or traumas that are rooted in your past. Therapists have advanced degrees, and are trained to treat emotional and mental health issues, work with trauma, and help you explore deeper layers of behavior and identity. Therapy is about healing.

Coaching is helpful to support you in reaching specific goals and is focused more on the future than the past. Coaches are generally trained through certification programs that run anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, and they can have a variety of professional/non professional backgrounds. If you are not in an emotional crisis and want to get clear on action steps, accountability, direction or confidence, then coaching might be a better fit. Coaching is about creating.

Many people benefit from both therapy and coaching.

Coaching focuses on goals, strategy and behavior change, so the timeline tends to be shorter and more structured.

Short-term coaching (4-8 sessions) – Good for specific goals, decision-making, improving skills (like communication), or clarifying next steps.

Medium coaching (3-6 months) – Good for career transitions, confidence and mindset shifts, habit building, navigating change.

Long-term coaching (6-18 months) – Good for growth, ongoing accountability, sustaining new habits, identity or life transitions.

My work generally blends therapy and coaching, but therapy is not available out of state. That is why I created my Relationship Reset course, which you can read more about on the home page.

In your first session, an electronic chart (EHR - electronic health record) will be created automatically upon scheduling. The EHR system will send you intake paperwork that must be completed and signed before the first session. This paperwork consists of: An Intake form (with demographics, symptoms, health history, goals), A Consent to Treatment (ensures you understand your rights and agree to the treatment you will receive), and a Good Faith Estimate (a description of expected costs of services, which protects you from unexpected or unclear billing). I'll discuss aspects of how I approach working with clients, rules around confidentiality, visit with you about your answers on the intake form, and we'll look at your goals for treatment and schedule another session if you decide to move forward working together.

Coaching sessions can be done in-person, through Zoom, or even over the phone from wherever you are in the world!

Coaching offers self-awareness for the purpose of movement, clarity and action. It's more about your current mindset and goals, and highlights your strengths, while showing your blocks or resistance. If you choose to engage in coaching and therapy together, they can offer a broader picture to help you understand yourself better.

While it's very common to have these concerns, please know that these reactions are normal and allowed in session (and they are very human). Crying is ok, it's not weakness, it is a natural part of healing! Not knowing is okay, it means you are learning! Feeling embarrassed is ok, it means you are being honest! Worrying about judgment is ok, it is helpful information that we can use to build trust!
